3/11/02

Hello all. Istism has been on an unofficial hiatus for a while now. My guess is that our next gig will be at the HHS Battle of the Bands. There is a strong possibility however that a show will be scheduled involving us, Tenth Try, and Phobia.

On a sidenote, I'd like to take this moment to make my first public statement about the animosity between our band and Scoop. I'm still not really sure when and where all this started, but I look here for a partial explanation (look at the last guestbook entry on that page).

I'd also like to say that I have never in my life so much as said a word to any member of Scoop. Nor have I ever met, seen, heard of, or even imagined who Scoop's girlfriend is. (I don't even truly know whose girlfriend it is). But as long as the situation exists already, I might as well publicly state that I think Scoop has the right to not like our music and post that wherever they feel on the internet; having said that, I feel that I also maintain that right, and so I'd just like to say, "Scoop Sucks". Yes, its become a rallying cry of the youth of America.

Also check out this hateful site, every good band should be hated I suppose by someone- that being Scoop's girlfriend in this case. Here, you can not only read lies about myself, "John Carpenter", you can share the experiences of "A day in the life of a pissed-off...teenage [bitch]." Thats right. YOU get to know what happened between the "Scoopies" (as they have dubbed themselves) between 4th and 5th period last Tuesday!!! Or read posts about how Meghan's family has grown closer together at TacoBell/KFC while making fun of yours truly, and then off to a lovely day at church for some character education!

Anyway, I consider myself a fairly tolerant person, as I have not said anything about this band or their friends for the year or so that this situation has existed. But when my name, even libeled on this website without mention of my band, is painted on this website as the person she has dreamed me up to be, I am exercising my liberties to say not only "Scoop Sucks", but "Fuck Scoop, and the 'Scoopies'".

I just got a call from U.S. Play. It turns out that they decided to cancel our show the day before because Due West United Methodist Church called and offered a bunch of money to be able to use the room so we basically got screwed. Sorry to everyone. I think we're all pretty pissed about this but there's nothing that can be done.

Remember to come to US Play this Friday, February 8th. The show is still on.

Ok good news and bad news. Bad news is that the "Winter Homecoming Party" is cancelled. However, I did manage to upload all of the pictures from the U.S. play show, so go look at them here...

No friends, this time the gig is at U.S. Play on Barrett Parkway. Look for flyers fairly soon. Istism wishes you a happy new year.

Great news, we have recently confirmed a show with the band Rockford at "The Somber Reptile" on December 14th. More info to come on that, and in other good news I uploaded the mp3s from our Battle of the Bands victory on September 29th. Check them out in the "Songs" section. Also, rumors may have been abound about a reunion type show with Corky and the Juice Pigs but this did not go through as planned. We are working on an appearance with them soon, however.

The Masquerade show has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales. Good news, though - I'm working on uploading the live tracks from the Battle of the Bands on 9/29/01. I'll let you know as soon as I have them up.

Today we attended an informational meeting regarding the show on December 1st at the Masquerade. The name of the show is called "Exposures". There were a lot of bands there. I believe the number mentioned was 31. This is where it gets weird. The show goes from 11:00 am to midnight the whole day long. Those who get the best spots are those who have sold the most tickets. We are responsible for selling as many tickets as possible. This is where you come in. We really need your support this time. Talk to a member of Istism for a ticket. We have plenty. The price is $12.00. Remember, this is a high quality professional calibur show, it is being held at the Masquerade in downtown Atlanta. We're aiming to sell most of the tickets before November 27th, as that is the date in which the playing order will be determined.

By the way, the pictures are up from the Burnt Hickory Lakes show.

-Hudson

10/31/01

Yo. Its Halloween, and we also heard from the people getting the battle of the bands at the Masquerade together. We are going to meet them somewhere on Sunday, we will keep you updated. Boo.

-Cal

Hey it feels weird but it has now been a year this day since this site first went up, although our band has been around for about 18 months now. Hopefully we'll be around for a lot longer. Thanks to all our supporters.

-Hudson

10/21/01

Ok, foremost thanks to all the bands who played last night. Phobia, Spellchek, and Bovine all had excellent shows - if you missed it, then I feel sorry for you. I don't know if any pictures were taken or whatever, but if they were then I'll try to get them up as soon as possible. I'd also like to thank, of course, all the people who came to see THE BANDS. Yes, I would like to thank those who came to the show to listen to the music. Those who watched all the bands are much appreciated.

The next gig we know of happens to be on December 1st at The Masquerade. We are supposed to get more details soon but as of right now I have confirmed our participation with our contacts so thats what we know so far. Keep checking in to the site to stay informed.

-Hudson

10/16/01

OK! The Saturday show is confirmed for good, we will have the following bands playing with us: Phobia, SpellChek, Bovine, and Istism. I think it will go in that order, but I'm not sure. I am predicting this show to be one of our best, so be there to see the Istism for yourself... Massive distribution of flyers will start on the 17th, be ready to see them.

-Cal

10/10/01

I just put up a new feature in the pictures section you may want to check it out. If you don't have a flyer for the amazing spectacle to take place on October the 20th at 7:00 at Burnt Hickory Lakes Clubhouse, then GET ONE. Spellchek is now opening the show!

-John

10/1/01

I think its my turn to talk. Yeah big thanks to all who saw us on Friday as well as Saturday. Justin dude, sorry you couldn't make it to the Battle I was gonna do some improved 311 just for you! Anyway DON'T FORGET we have two free shows coming up in October we're putting on on the 19th and the 20th. Be there to see some other kickass bands from Harrison too. We've heard that Bovine will be there, Golem, and maybe even a renewed Focus! Don't worry we'll remind you with flyers pretty soon.

-John

9/30/01

Hey. First I want to thank everyone who came out to both of our shows this weekend. We had a good time at the tailgate party and the battle of the bands at Cruizers Festival turned out very well. We won first place which entitles us to a free demo at "TreeSound Studios". We also came back with lots of pictures and will soon have them all up, until then, I've put some of them up already in the Pictures section. Again, thanks to all of our supporters.

-Cal

Ok, even though Cal has already updated I want to say some things as well. I also wish to thank everybody who supported us on Friday and those who came out to Woodstock on Saturday. Your presence is appreciated more than you know. I would also like to thank Scott Mikell from Warner Brothers / 6 Mile Records who is going to be setting us up to record a demo at Treesound Studios soon as part of the award for winning the Battle of the Bands at the Cruizers Festival. Keep an eye out for more good things to come.

-Hudson

9/25/01

Good news. It turns out the Harrison tailgate party has been rescheduled to this Friday and we are scheduled to play again. This time instead of being exclusively for seniors the whole school is invited. Tickets are still on sale from senior wall reps. Oh, and be sure to check out the live songs from the Lost Creek show that are now available in MP3 format under the "Songs" section.

-Hudson

9/22/01

Hey, don't forget to come this Saturday to The Cruizers Festival. I also have good news in that I just uploaded some live tracks of us playing our songs on the songs page. Just click on the mp3 link, then click on it again at the tripod page to download and listen to us live.

-John

9/18/01

Ok, obviously the tail-gate party was cancelled since there was no game on Friday. That makes two cancelled shows in a row for us, which definetly sucks. Both instances were out of our control. Anyway, we may have another potential date in October, as we've been asked to play with another local band at Harrison. Another potential in January (yeah I know its pretty far off) will be followed up on. More news to come later. I have also created a starter page to list our shows on, since I'm no HTML genius, its pretty basic but click here to go there.

-John

9/12/01

9/10/01

Our show at the Jacksons has been cancelled this weekend, (refer to the previous update), but we still have another show, (well sort of...). Istism has been asked by the Harrison High School student council, or "The WALL", to play at the first senior tailgate party which happens this Friday, (9/14/01). Despite the fact that Alex is but a mere freshman this year we have agreed to play. If you are interested in going, (and you should be), see a WALL representative for a ticket. Tickets are currently $5.00 in advance and $7.00 that night, (sorry we are not responsible for the prices). So even if you don't like football at least come to the tailgate party and see us play anyway. Harrison Football... go hoyas... yeah.

-Hudson

9/8/01

Today there is some bad news to report. It turns out that the show scheduled for the 15th of September at Tyler and Chase Jackson's house can no longer take place. The other dates, however, are still confirmed as of today. So we apologize but we hope you will still plan on seeing us September 29th at the Cruizers Teen Festival and on October 20th at the Burnt Hickory Lakes Clubhouse. We will continue to keep you all updated on concert information so check back here frequently to know what's going on.

-Hudson

9/1/01

A few things to talk about in this update:

First of all, we have another free show scheduled. October the 20th we will be playing at Burnt Hickory Lakes clubhouse, other bands playing are unannounced at the moment, but expect to be able to see the new band Golem in their debut performance! Second, our free show scheduled for September the 15th has been confirmed. We will be playing at Tyler Jackson's house out by his pool. In both cases, we really want to ask everyone to treat the places with care. At our Lost Creek Show back in March there was a case of vandalism that subtracted from our deposit of $200. Thats why we can't play there again, and also why we didn't have any shows this summer. To put on free shows the bands take on a lot of responsibility and it'd be really cool if everyone would just relax and have good times as long as they don't get us in trouble. The deposit for the Burnt Hickory Lakes show is $300, so we're taking a big risk but I think it'll turn out ok.

Also, don't forget about the Battle of the Bands on September the 29th at Cruizers Teen Festival. There will also be hacky-sac/footbag demos and competition, a disc golf tournament, a car show, and other events.

-John

8/29/01

Alex is coming back to town for some practice sessions, meanwhile Cal needs a girlfriend...

The lineup for the show on the 15th has changed around a little. Originally Spellchek was to play, but there were scheduling conflicts that could not be worked around. Now the group is going to be something like, "Bovine, Focus, and Istism". Bovine is a new band at Harrison that is headed up by Eric Nelson, Nick Williamson, Andrew Monroe, and Jimmy Hawbaker. The band formerly known as Focus (unnamed as of yet) this time around looking like Chris Tierce, Joe Bolduc, Chris Comer, and Tyler Davis will be there too. And of course we'll be there. Bring all your friends and hang out listening to some variety of local music and a free show.

-John

8/18/01

Two show dates have been confirmed. Expect to see flyers soon.

A venue has been secured for our September 29th show. It will be part of a Batlle of the Bands out at Hobgood Park and Ampitheater, which is part of a huge teen festival that includes a car show, disc golf tournament, footbag/hacky-sack pro demos and competition, and more. Cruizers Teen Festival.

Also, we will be playing at an unconfirmed clubhouse on September 15th as another free show. So be there as well. More information to follow...

-John

8/11/01

We practiced the other day and it sounded great. September 29th is still an idea, although it is almost a set date. Incubus plays on September 30th, so the weekend will be fun. School starts on Monday. I think this will be a good year for the Istism...

-Cal

8/8/01

Sorry we haven't been updating every now and then. Istism is currently getting ready for the school year and practicing. The idea for a next gig is September 29th, we dont know where just an idea. Rumors have it that a second lost creek show might be in the making....

We have also decided that we are staying as Istism, even though Alex is going to college, he will still be our guitarist. So as we said before, Istism lives on. And the update on the CD, we didn't quite get around to it. If we recorded a CD now, only about 8 songs would be on it. So we are going to write a lot soon and wait until we get about 12 songs, then think about recording. But we still are recording a CD, just not right now...

-Cal

6/25/01

Istism is going into the studio to record an album. Today we were scheduled time at LEDBELLY STUDIOS for July the 9th, 10th, and 18th each day being about 6-8 hours. We're hoping to put some live tracks on the album as well as the recorded ones. We are also going to appear live most likely shortly afterwards to help promote it. ISTISM LIVES ON!

Hey thanks to everyone who came to the show at the Satterfield's. It was fun, "Notorious L and the Flava Crew" and "Corky and the Juice Pigs" put on some kickass shows. We'll still be at Spring Fling this Friday so we'll see you there.

-John

4/24/01

Two more shows. Well one is actually Spring Fling at Harrison, thats May 18th. But before that we're playing at the Satterfield's on May 11th, alongside Corky and the Juice Pigs.

4/21/01

I finally got around to uploading a ton of pictures from the Lost Creek show. These are around 40 new pictures of Corky and Focus and you can access them in the Pictures section. Sorry it took so long, but I kind of forgot I had these for a while. Anyway, enjoy them.

4/20/01

Awww yeah.

4/17/01

We won third at the Battle of the Bands. No news on the next gig, except that it will be at the Satterfield's, or another venue we're looking into.

4/10/01

We will have CD's available for sale starting this Friday the 13th for good luck. We'll also be selling them at the Battle of the Bands on Saturday. (Also come to the Mad Growing Plant Sale from 9:00 to 2:00 on Saturday at the HHS Greenhouse, we've got the best plants around and Istism will be playing there with Mud's band.)

4/9/01

Nothing new in a while, just remember to come to the Battle of the Bands at Harrison High School this Saturday, April 14. Supposedly it starts at 6:00 pm, but as to details beyond that we are just as clueless as you are at this point.

3/21/01

We finally have pictures up! Check them out in the new Pictures section.

3/18/01

We are proud to present the first Istism CD, (title to be announced). It is a cut from our most recent show at the Lost Creek clubhouse. Tracks include:

1. Cemetary Gates
2. Santeria
3. I Collect Dust
4. Mellow
5. Say It Ain't So
6. Eggs and Bacon
7. Not so Bad, Not so Good
8. Horizons
9. Absence of Presence
Plus a couple of secret bonus tracks...

I will be taking orders from whoever wants a copy very soon and don't worry they will be cheap.

3/17/01

We hope you had a good time at the Lost Creek show, and if you missed it.. shame on you. There is a Battle of the Bands coming up at Harrison High School. Lots of bands have signed up including us and the rest of the Lost Creek lineup. Make sure you're there on April 14.

3/4/01

The Talent Show was was fun, thanks to everyone who came out. We won the 'Best Band' award, but the other bands, (Corky & the Juice Pigs and the Mexican Turtles), were great. Our next show has been affirmed as being on March 16 and its free! We're back in the clubhouse with Focus but this time its at the one in Lost Creek subdivision (within a mile of Harrison). We have some new songs to play so make sure you don't miss it.

2/13/01

The Hangar show is cancelled, at least for Istism. There were scheduling conflicts that just couldn't be worked out. We'll be doing the talent show, however, on March 1, 2, and 3, as our next show.

2/8/01

Now I hear the show is on the 24th... more later...

2/1/01

Looks like another show is lined up. This time we'll be with Focus and The Spins at The Hangar on Marietta Square (February 17). Also check out Focus' website at http://focus.50g.com/ . (That picture of them is at The Hangar by the way.) Another by the way is that we have started the recording process in the past few days. Its going to be quite a while before a tape comes out though, the process is taking a long time- but keep your eyes open for a demo with about five songs on it.

1/22/01

We made it into the talent show.

1/21/01

Thanks for coming out to the show last night, we had a great time.

1/18/01

Well they had an open spot for a talent show audition so we did it today instead of Friday. The acts who made it will be posted on Monday.

1/11/01

Today, we signed up for the talent show at Harrison. We have our audition next Friday.

1/8/01

We have our next show lined up for January 20th at U.S. Play and Focus will be opening for us. Don't worry, tickets are significantly cheaper this time. Try to check out Focus as well at the Hangar on the 12th. By the way, I improved the warping Istism image at the top, doesn't it look so much better?

12/23/00

New song, "Absence of Presence".

12/22/00

New song, "Not so Bad, Not so Good".

12/19/00

Yes, it has been a long time since the last update but now we have some news. We are excited to tell you that we have finally landed another gig! U.S. Play is having a New Year's Eve party featuring 12 hours of live bands. It is from 3:00 pm to 3:00 am and we will go on as the first band at 3:00 pm. It costs $15.00 at the door for all day/night admission. But don't despair! See a member of Istism for a coupon reedemable at the door for $5.00 off. That's $10.00 for 12 hours of live music. We are also considering sacrificing the money we will be making to lower ticket prices to $7.00 for you guys but so far we haven't been able to come up with a feasible way of doing this without the possibility of losing money. More on this later. Oh and by the way, "Untitled" has been titled and lyrics are written. It is called "Horizons".

11/3/00

Updated the "Songs" section with some lyrics. Look for a full MP3 of the untitled song and some other songs real soon, (a teacher workday lends time to record songs, heh). Nothing new on the situation for our next gig, but keep checking in.

10/31/00

First news day: Halloween. I finally fixed the mp3 so check it out by clicking on the "Songs" section, I think you will be pleased. By the way, our next gig is kind of undecided as of right now. We are looking at several different options. This site will be updated the very day we decide so keep checking in.
